Guidelines
1.     Only the total number of your Thespy events need to be entered at the same time as your troupe’s registration for the festival. The specific information regarding the event (titles, authors, etc.) can be submitted later.
2.     All Thespys must be registered though an online form found on the Kansas Thespians website. A link to register will also be sent to each sponsor on October 1st. All information must be submitted, including student names, grade, titles, authors, publishers, and event type. The In-Person Thespy submission form will be available from October 1st through November 1st.
3.     New this year, students may submit their events virtually. Each student participating in a virtual event must also be fully registered to attend the Kansas Thespian Festival. Short Film and Playwriting events are considered Virtual Events. The Virtual Thespy submission form will be available from October 1st through December 1st.
4.     Each event is $30. If it is a duet or group event, Kansas Thespians only needs one registration with all the participants’ names and one entry fee. For example, if you are submitting 3 monologues, 2 duet acting, 1 group musical, you only need to pay for 6 events.
5.     Each student may participate in up to TWO separate Thespy events at the Kansas Thespian Festival. Students may not submit multiple entries in the same category.
6.     You need to submit event information for each event entered.
7.     All In-Person Thespy registrations must be completed by November 1st. Any incomplete registrations will be disqualified.
8.     All Virtual Thespy registrations must be completed by December 1st. Short Film and Playwriting events are considered Virtual Events. To complete your Virtual submission, you will need all materials and/or videos available for upload. Any incomplete registrations will be disqualified.
9.     All event materials MUST be from a published play or musical. All performance events must check this Approved Publishers List to confirm eligibility. The list is curated annually and locked prior to the start of the academic year. No approval is needed for entries in technical categories.
10.  New this year, students are NOT required to wear all black during their adjudication. Instead, students are encouraged to dress simply and professionally.
11.  Students are not required to stay in their event room for the entire competition. However, they are welcome to observe any event, as long as they enter the room BEFORE a performance/presentation has begun.
12.  It is strongly suggested that all students arrive to their event at least 15 minutes prior to their scheduled time.
13.  Each room featuring Musical Theatre events will have a Blue Tooth speaker with auxiliary cord.
14.  Student ratings (Superior, Excellent, Good, Fair) are determined by averaging the scores from all 3 judges. All rubrics include 5 categories with up to 4 points, totaling 20 maximum points.
15.  Any Thespian(s) who receives a Superior rating will qualify to compete at the International Thespian Festival and are required to perform the same piece at the International Thespian Festival.
16.  Please read though the Thespys Rules and Rubrics for specific event rules and guidelines located here.
17.  Contact Edward Shafer at [email protected] with any questions.
